Tanganyika Wildlife Park’s Education Department is seeking highly self-motivated individuals to fill the position of Education Program Assistant. Under the direction of the Education Curator, this position is responsible for delivering high-quality environmental education programming for diverse audiences including school children, preschoolers, scouts, teens, and adults.

Essential Duties:

  • Presenting Guided Tours to school groups, scout troops, and other community groups
  • Facilitating a variety of environmental education programming including classroom programs, early childhood classes, birthday parties, scout workshops, and overnight programs.
  • Handling a variety of small animals and facilitating interactions between guests and animals in formal (program) and informal settings
  • Assisting with offsite live animal programming
  • Supervising volunteers assisting with program delivery
  • Light office work and other tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required, college coursework in the natural sciences, education, or a related field preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpretation skills
  • Desire to work with large groups of children and adults
  • Experience handling small animals preferred
  • Customer service oriented attitude
  • A team player with an outgoing personality and positive attitude
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 25 pounds


  • Hours are highly variable, ranging from 0 to 30 hours per week
