Tanganyika Wildlife Park’s Education Department is seeking highly self-motivated individuals to fill the position of Safari Camp Intern during the 2018 Season. Safari Camp Interns will assist paid staff in providing campers with a fun, unique, and educational camp experience! This Internship program is perfect for current students (or recent graduates) in multiple programs of study such as Education, Zoology, Environmental Science, Fisheries and Wildlife Biology, Zoo Science, or a similarly related field. At this time, the Safari Camp Intern position is unpaid.

Time Commitment:

  • June 1st - August 12th
  • The number of hours required per week will vary, but Interns should expect to work at least 20 hours per week.

General Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED is required, college coursework in life sciences, education, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • CPR and/or First Aid certification is desirable, but not required.
  • Excellent public speaking and customer service skills are required.
  • Excellent classroom management and problem solving skills.
  • Interns must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Interns should be able to stand, sit, or walk for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Interns should be able to bend, stoop, and lift at least 25 pounds when necessary

Duties May Include:

  • Primary responsibilities include:
    • Preparing daily camp activities (including gathering materials, prepping demonstrations and crafts, etc)
    • Leading camp activities as needed
    • Acting as a secondary supervisor for 12 to 24 elementary-aged campers
    • With additional training, handle a variety of small animals and facilitate encounters between animals and campers in formal and informal settings
  • Other responsibilities include:
    • Aiding in curriculum development for camp as needed
    • Occasional light office work
    • Occasional supervision of volunteers during camp shifts
